BIO
Jamie Read, author of “Ghost Sonata: The Winged Bridge,” lives in Portland, Oregon, USA, with her husband Vern, son Micah, and step-daughter Karen. Jamie grew up in Thayer, Missouri, an Ozark Mountain farming community in the central United States. She worked throughout college, switched from an English major to Wildlife Conservation and Management, and earned a Master’s in Biology from Southern Missouri University. On moving to Alaska, she worked for the Institute of Marine Science at University of Alaska-Fairbanks, researching hydrocarbon flow in Gulf of Alaska food chains. She went to medical school at the University of Washington-Seattle, and psychiatric residency at University of California-San Francisco. She practiced psychiatry six years in Sitka, Alaska, before her current position of fourteen years as an attending psychiatrist at two hospitals in Portland, Oregon. Jamie is an enthusiastic new screenwriter, with a philosophy that film directly feeds the unconscious as well as conscious mind, with language, music, and visual envelopment. Ghost Sonata is the first screenplay of her “Chinatown Trilogy.” While written for entertainment, it is also hoped to resolve conflict and nurture cooperation through love and friendship, passion and perseverance, and a belief in our ability to change.
